The Beginning
The WWAS was born on Dec 15 1949, when a group of enthusiastic artists held a meeting at the home of Joyce Jenkins.

First Meeting
First Regular Meeting 14 April. First Exhibition held in Council Chambers. The catalogue design and execution by members of the society in silk screen printing.

Rented Space
The search for a suitable premises. With no regular studio or meeting place the society was offered a loft space in an old building behind the Union Bank.

New Building
The loft building was sold and once again the society was homeless. An Air Force mess hut from Uranquinty was offered at 800 pounds. It was secured with some interest free loans and erected in the New Moon Gardens on the banks of the Wollundry Lagoon.

WWAS ‘s Campaign to Acquire an Art Gallery for the city of Wagga Wagga. The Wagga Wagga Art Society was at the forefront of the drive to establish an art gallery in the city of Wagga Wagga.

50th Anniversary
Wagga Art Gallery celebrates its 50th anniversary. The first site and exhibition was at the Council Chambers in 1975. It then moved to the renovated Coles supermarket in Gurwood Street in 1980, where it remained until the current building was completed in 1999. The Wagga Wagga Art Gallery cares for the art collection of the WWAS on permanent loan.
